It does not look like there is a way for a customer to change their credit card info (maybe a new card, or card has expired) without triggering a bill. If this is in the middle of a billing cycle (for example, half-way through the month for a customer on monthly billing), wouldn't this trigger full payment in the middle of the month and reset their billing cycle? That would not be ideal.
What do you typically suggest as a way for customer to enter new credit card info after their initial payment has been made? -Thanks -Eric

Hi @eric_pulaski
Updating a customer’s credit card does not trigger a new charge, does not reset the billing cycle, and does not create a mid cycle invoice, as long as you are only updating the payment method and not modifying the subscription itself.
The correct approach is to let the customer update their card using Stripe’s PaymentMethod / SetupIntent flow:
- Collect the new card details (via Stripe Checkout in setup mode)
- Attach the new card to the existing Stripe Customer
- Set it as the default payment method
- Leave the subscription untouched
When done this way:
- No invoice is generated
- No payment is charged immediately
- The billing cycle remains exactly the same
- The new card is simply used on the next scheduled invoice
How This Fits with ASP.NET Zero
ASP.NET Zero does not trigger billing unless:
- The Edition is changed
- The subscription itself is updated or recreated
Updating the customer’s default payment method alone is safe and has no billing side effects.
What Would Cause a Mid Cycle Charge
Just for clarity, these actions would trigger billing or proration:
- Changing Edition or pricing plan
- Cancelling and recreating the subscription
- Updating subscription items or quantities
Updating the card only does none of the above.
We usually suggest a simple Update Payment Method option in the customer portal that uses Stripe’s native flow. This matches Stripe’s own recommendations and avoids unexpected charges.
