Feedback on documentation and communication #3840

We purchased a license to ASPNETZERO almost 9 months or so ago. During that time we have learned a lot and come to appreciate the benefits of using the template. The support provided has also been very helpful.

However a couple of areas that are severely lacking is your documentation and communication. I realize that English is second language for most of the ASPNETZERO team and thus the issues with documentation. I think you are doing your team and your product a disservice by not using someone who knows English as a first language to write your documents. I think it would be huge benefit to your team and your product to hire or use a professional technical writer, who knows English, to write your documents. The second area that is lacking is how you communicate the release updates and the related change logs. You need to setup a page along with your documentation that clearly details all the changes included and the breaking changes.

I dont think I am alone in voicing these concerns. Based on many of the postings I have read on this forum over the last 9 months, this is a recurring theme from your customers.

I am not posting this as a criticism for the ASPNETZERO team. I am sincerely trying to give constructive feedback so that it may help you to enhance your product. In my opinion you have built something really good here and you are hurting yourself and your product with the aforementioned issues.

Respectfully, Exlnt!

    Hi @exlnt,

Thank you very much for your valuable comments. It might be hard to find someone for reviewing and fixing our documentations because we have lots of documents and it also requires tehcnical knowledge but we will consider both of your suggestions in a short time.

We would like to hear if someone else is having similar problems.

    Thanks.

I 100% agree with the post above. I love the product but documentation is lacking. For example, it is September 17th and on September 11th version 4.5 was released, but there still hasn't been an update to the change logs. Often within the change logs there is a single line that says bug fixes and enhancements... what are those?

I've been a customer for a year and a half, which means that I have renewed once. At the time it was a tough decision because I wasn't sure what would be implemented within the roadmap that was going to be valuable to me. I would recommend more documentation on features that are coming in the next few releases (90 days would be sufficient)

Other than those comments, I love the product and I have much hope for what it will become and what it can do to speedup the development process.

    Hi @brallierc,

Thank you very much for your comments. We are considering enhancements on our documentation.

We will add 4.5 to change logs but change logs are for non-customers. For our customers it is better to track changes in github https://github.com/aspnetzero/aspnet-zero-core/releases.

For speeding up development process, we are planning to develop a RAD tool but we haven't worked on that yet.

    Thanks.
