I'm trying to create an absolutely minimal registration page. I'm wondering if asp.net zero supports user self-registration with no password, but passwordless authentication enabled for that tenancy? Will this just work out of the box?

Thank you for your question about passwordless registration.
ASP.NET Zero has two separate features that work independently.
Self Registration: This feature allows new users to create an account on your application. During this process, users must provide their name, email, username, and a password. The password field is mandatory and cannot be skipped.
Passwordless Login: This feature allows existing users to log in without entering their password. Instead, they receive a verification code via email or SMS. However, this only works for users who already have an account in the system.
Why They Don't Work Together
The passwordless login feature assumes that a user account already exists in the database. It simply provides an alternative way to authenticate. The registration process, on the other hand, is designed to create new user accounts and requires a password to be set during account creation.
There is no built in option to register a new user without a password and then have them use passwordless login immediately.
Recommended Solution
If you want to offer a password-free experience for your users, we recommend enabling External Login Providers such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook. With this approach:
Users click "Sign in with Google" (or another provider) They authenticate using their existing account ASP.NET Zero automatically creates a user record in your database Users never need to create or remember a password for your application This feature is fully supported out of the box and requires only configuration of the external provider credentials.
If external login providers do not meet your requirements and you specifically need passwordless self registration, this would require custom development to modify the registration flow. This is outside the scope of the default product functionality.
If you would like this feature to be available in ASP.NET Zero out of the box, you can create a feature request (issue). We can then evaluate it for inclusion in future releases.
